Across the United States, African Americans celebrate Juneteenth as a powerful reminder of our liberation from the bonds of slavery.

Celebrations of the holiday serve as reminders of Black progress and statements of resistance amid ongoing challenges. In a time marked by division, these events uplift unity, joy and the enduring richness of Black culture, which are especially abundant in Atlanta.

Juneteenth offers something for everyone, from the spirited competitor who never says no to a challenge to the passionate historian in search of Black stories.

Juneteenth Atlanta Parade & Music Festival

This two-day event features handcrafted goods, African and African American cuisine, live performances by local artists and the iconic Juneteenth Black History Parade. The event will also host a car show.

Juneteenth 2025 at the Atlanta History Center

The Atlanta History Center will host a free day of hands-on crafting demonstrations, along with a special panel discussion featuring author Robell Awake and Dr. Tiffany Momon on the legacy of Black craftsmanship. The event will also include a vibrant makers market showcasing painters, potters and other artisans with handcrafted goods. Guests can enjoy live music from DJ Bad and purchase food from a variety of Black-owned food trucks and restaurants.

Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Center Presents: Juneteenth Jubilee 2025

If you’re willing to make the drive, the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Center will host its fourth annual Juneteenth Commemoration on June 15. The event celebrates the rich traditions of the Gullah Geechee people, who are descendants of enslaved Africans known for their vibrant culture and African-rooted customs. The event will include African drumming, dance, libation ceremonies, and a keynote address by author Daniel Black.

Apex Museum Juneteenth Celebration

The Apex Museum will host its annual Juneteenth celebration featuring a special virtual guest appearance by Dr. Opal Lee, the activist known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth” for her role in making Juneteenth a federal holiday. The event will also open with a performance of “ARE U READY” by Walter Bland Jr., hold performances by the Flint River Community Center Choir and historical re-enactments honoring the legacy of emancipation and African American history.

Power: Juneteenth All-White Day Party

Open to adults 21 and older, this event features an all-white dress theme. DJs will spin R&B and hip-hop music, and there will be a full bar and food menu highlighting Black culinary traditions such as soul food and traditional African dishes.

Juneteenth Field Day

Are you a competitive sportsman looking for your next win? This community event invites adults and young adults to enjoy a variety of outdoor games, from relay races to team challenges, all set to live music. Free refreshments, including sodas and water, will be provided.

2 p.m. June 19. 1320 Monroe Drive NE, Atlanta.

Spoken Word Vibes: Juneteenth Weekend

Fancy yourself as a poet? This 21+ event will feature live poetry and music performances by local Black artists such as Poetry Jackson, highlighting a range of vocal art forms. The lineup includes musicians spanning genres from soul to hip-hop, along with DJs such as DJ DSA. Attendees can also explore an art gallery showcasing work by local Black creatives and enjoy food from Black-owned vendors.

Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society Commemoration for Juneteenth

The Cobb County Landmarks & Historical Society will host several Juneteenth programs, including a $15 genealogy showcase with Unearthing Your Roots CEO Christopher Smothers, along with a free celebration to include tours, crafts and living history. A free teacher’s workshop on how to teach Juneteenth properly through education for elementary school teachers is set for June 28th.
