‘It’s UATL’: Is love really blind?

On the ninth season of the reality dating show ‘Love Is Blind,’ no couples got married, which begs the question: Can you fall in love without seeing your partner?
In this episode of the “It’s UATL” podcast, hosts Najja Parker and Brooke Leigh Howard talk about the popular show with licensed marriage and family therapist Stephanie Yates-Anyabwile.
Yates-Anyabwile also has a well-liked YouTube channel where she analyzes these reality TV shows.
“I think for me, this season particularly, I was just so frustrated with the casting process,” she said about the couples. “Because I’m looking at these people like this is a real pain.”
The trio also talked about Kalybriah “KB” Haskin and Edmond Harvey, the only Black couple to become engaged during the Denver-based season.
The pair ultimately did not get married.
“I do have a lot of empathy for him, as well,” the licensed marriage family therapist said of Harvey’s backstory of going through foster care at an young age.
“I think that for (Haskin) that is probably what also attracted her (to) him,” she said of the contestant, who also works as a social worker.
“Unfortunately, as Black women sometimes we are very attracted to the idea of saving someone.”
