Is your song the next big hit? The showcase discovering hip-hop's next star
Where might hip-hop's next big artist be discovered? The answer comes in the form of New Music Mondays, a weekly showcase at Stankonia Studios in Atlanta — home of Outkast — where independent artists perform for music’s most influential tastemakers. The format is simple: Each up-and-coming musician can perform up to three tracks — a verse and chorus — or two full songs. Then, the heavy hitters in the room pass the mic, offering advice to enhance elements like stage presence, music production and audience engagement. The AJC’s Najja Parker takes us inside the weekly performances and open discussions — created by Coalition DJs — that give emerging artists a direct line to the collective’s network of clubs, lounges and studios known for taking stars to the next level.
