The HBCU dreams inspired by ‘A Different World’

For members of the UATL team, “A Different World” was more than a beloved sitcom it helped shape how they imagined college life and, for some, influenced their decision to attend an HBCU. From dreaming of Hillman College to choosing schools like Spelman College, North Carolina Central University and Howard University, the UATL team reflects on the show’s portrayal of Black excellence, campus life, individuality and HBCU community.
